Abstract

163,770. Boughey, W. S., and Colpoys, A. B. G. Feb. 18, 1920. Scaffolding and staging.-In mechanically elevated scaffold staging of the kind in which a platform h is slid up and down a vertical non-rotatable column c by means of differential pulley gear or the like, the platform is longitudinally divisible in two parts which are readily removable without dismantling the apparatus as a whole. Each part consists of a stretcher h<1> and cross-pieces h<2> on which are laid the planks h<3>. The recesses h<4> fit against the column c when the platform is assembled and the projecting ends of the cross-pieces h<2> of each part pass. below the planks h<3> of the other part. The platform rests on a slide or carrier arranged around the column c and consisting of bearers i and trimmers j connected together by angle strips k which bear on corresponding angle-irons mounted on the column c which is longitudinally slotted to accommodate the lifting tackle. The stretchers fit into shaped ends i<x> of the bearers i and against upturned ends i<2> of iron braces i<3> attached to the bearers and are secured against tilting by thumb-screws &c. A bolt i<4> passes through central holes in the braces i<3> and is supported by an elongated link g suspended from the lower pulley block f. The operating chain n can be worked by hand from the platform or ground or be driven by power.
