A rotary feeder for granular materials comprises a vaned wheel 5 rotatable around a horizontal shaft 6 in a cylindrical casing 4 having inlet and outlet openings 1 and 10 for the material, the inlet opening being in an upper quadrant and to one side of the casing in such manner that a line from the centre of the wheel through the upper edge 16 of the inlet opening makes an angle (15) with the horizontal which is smaller than the angle of repose (12) of the material. The upper edge 16 may be adjustable by means of a movable blade 2, and a pressure equalizing pipe 8 may connect a sector about to be filled with one about to be emptied.
