787,766. Looms with stationary weft supply. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. July 14, 1955 [July 17, 1954], No. 20451/55. Class 142(2) The thread gripping device comprises two levers 11, 12 pivotally mounted on a carrier 10, both arms of each lever being arranged on the same side of the thread 26. One arm of each lever has a clamping surface 24, 25 to grip the thread, and the other arm is loaded by a spring 16, 17. The common centre of gravity of the mass of each lever together with the effective portion of the mass of the spring bearing on the lever lies approximately on, or moves in a focus closely adjacent to, the pivotal axis of the lever. The carrier may be a rod or needle or a steel band wound on a drum, or may be a gripper shuttle. A stop 27 positions the levers 11, 12 in the gripping position, and a second stop may be provided to prevent the levers being moved appreciably beyond their open position on breakage of the spring 16, 17. The levers are held in the gripping position by the spring, and are moved to the open position by a forked member 30.
