Abstract
608,649. Shuttleless looms. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Feb. 19, 1946, Nos. 5169 and 5170. Convention dates, Aug. 15, 1945 and Sept. 11, 1945. [Class 142(ii)] Apparatus for gripping and holding a weft thread in a nipper shuttle loom after insertion of the thread into the shed and before it is beaten up, is characterized in that the thread gripper is movably mounted on a reciprocating operating member and is yieldingly held in its normal working position. In the form shown, a twoarmed thread gripper 12, 13 is pivoted at 14 to a reciprocating bar 15 and is held in its normal working position by means of a torsion spring 19 mounted on a pin 18 which is fixed to the bar 15 and passes through a notch 16 in the arm 13. The weft thread is gripped between the part 20 of the arm 12 and a member 22 the pin 17 of which passes through the arm 13 and has its upper end spring-pressed against a cam 25 adjustably mounted on a reciprocating bar 27. Should the gripper knock against the shuttle owing to the latter failing to box or boxing late, it is swung in an anti-clockwise direction against the action of the spring 19, and at the same time a shuttle-stop motion operates to stop the loom. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), an arm on the bar on which the gripper is mounted is provided with a stop against which the gripper is normally pressed by a torsion spring. In another modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the upper part of the gripper is spring-pressed into contact with an arm on the bar on which the gripper is mounted, and the lower part of the gripper has pivoted thereto a gripping member in the form of a two-armed lever, one arm of which has a cam surface which is spring-pressed against an arm of a bell-crank lever.
