Abstract

640,214. Gripper shuttle looms. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. June 3, 1948, No. 14995. Convention date, June 5, 1947. [Class 142(ii)] In order that the transfer device, which draws back the cut end of weft from the selvedge and presents it to the next gripper shuttle, may have its jaws 46 normally closed, the weft 5, as it is running into the shed, is deflected out of the path of the jaws by a movable guide 38. When a shuttle reaches the opposite side of the loom, the jaws 46 (which have meanwhile moved to the selvedge) are opened by a wedge 60 and the guide 38 brings the weft between the jaws, which are then allowed to close on it by withdrawal of the wedge. The weft is next cut at the selvedge and the jaws 46 then return to the position shown where the weft end is gripped by another shuttle. A wedge 59 opens the jaws 46, the shuttle is picked, and the guide 38 moves the weft clear of the jaws, which are then allowed to close again.
