942,590. Centre selvedge mechanism. SULZER FR’RES S. A. May 8,1961 [June 1, 1960], No. 16720/61. Heading D1E. The centre selvedge mechanism of a gripper shuttle loom clamps the weft as it is beaten up to the fell,the apex of the shed acting to guide the weft between the jaws of the clamps 22, 23; separate mechanism for guiding the weft into the jaws is thereby dispensed with, and the shuttle track can be continuous instead of having teeth 31a omitted to clear the path of the selvedge mechanism. Immediately after beat-up, shears 28 cut the weft between the two clamps, which then move rearwards to position V; when the shed changes, the clamps release the weft ends, which are tucked in to form selvedges by hooks 53.
