Abstract

1,130,892. Dummy shuttle looms. WEAVING DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 4 Oct., 1965. [3 Oct., 1964], No. 40383/64. Heading DIE. Weft yarn 11 extending from the selvedge to a guide tube 10 is depressed by nylon fingers 26 operated by a link 30 so as to be engaged by a dummy shuttle 17 of the kind described in Specification 1130896. The shuttle takes the weft into the shed in the form of a loop, a measured length (see Specification 1130893) being initially drawn from the supply through the tube 10. A cutter 29 (described in Specification 1130894) rises into the shed as shown, and fingers (not shown) swing upwards from under the warp to beat up the portion of weft between the selvedge and the cutter to form a tucked-in selvedge. When the weft has been cut, the shuttle straightens it out into a single pick; the measured length is such that the end does not slide out of the shuttle until the shuttle has boxed. The excess length is drawn back by the device described in Specification 1130895, which also pulls the weft taut again when the shuttle returns to the box 27 to keep it clear of the path of the shuttle.
