Abstract

787,518. Universal joints. JAZARIN, J. L. March 4, 1955, No. 6489/55. Class 80 (2). A clutch plate 9 is resiliently supported on its hub 1 by means of a ring of rubber or like material 5 held in a state of compression by rivets 7 between the plate 9 and an annular support plate 4 secured to the hub 1. The stems of the rivets 7 are made smaller than the holes in the plate 4 to allow for the torsional deformation of the ring 5. The ring 5 is preferably bonded to the plate 4 and a second plate 4<SP>1</SP> secured to the clutch plate 9 by the rivets 7. A backing plate 8 is also provided for the rivets after passing through the holes in the support plate 4. The resilient ring 5 may be duplicated on the other side of the support plate 4 with a backing plate secured rigidly by the rivets 7 to the plate 9.
