Abstract

793,707. Pistons. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. May 23, 1956 [May 23, 1955], No. 14879/55. Class 122 (1). A diaphragm 10 of flexible material is clamped peripherally between the two parts of a divided supporting ring, one part 11 being recessed to receive the other, which may be either of rectangular cross-section 12, Fig. 2, or of L- cross-section 12a, Fig. 2a. The peripheral portion 10b of the diaphragm 10 is upturned at its edge to fit between the opposed cylindrical faces of the two parts of the supporting ring. The radial contact faces of the two parts may both be corrugated to improve the grip on the edge of the diaphragm. The material of the diaphragm may be rubberized fabric bonded to the ring parts by adhesive and/or heat.
