Abstract

813,336. Assembling torsional vibration dampers. HAUSHALTER, F. L. March 27, 1957, No. 10053/57. Class 108(3) A torsional vibration damper comprising a body 10, Fig. 1, and an inertia ring 14 held in concentric relationship to each other by an annulus 30 of rubber is assembled as follows. Body 10 and inertia ring 14 are supported as shown in Fig. 3. Centrally apertured disc 31 of rubber is placed over the annular space 16 and the thin steel ring 30, held in head 21, is moved forwards to fold disc 31 on itself and push it into annular space 16. The thickness of the disc 31 when folded is greater than that of annular space 16. A lubricant which is subsequently absorbed by the rubber is used in assembly. Ring 30 may be either removed from the assembled damper or left in position. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, disc 31 is replaced by rubber ring 33 which is thicker than annular space 16 and has an annular slot 34 for receiving ring 30. Insertion is as previously described. Specification 813,337 is referred to.
