Abstract
913,925. Torsional vibration dampers. METALASTIK Ltd. April 10, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 17961/60. Class 108(3). In a torsional vibration damper, generally of the kind described in Specification 786,789, the rubber, or like elastomer, vibration elements are non-uniformly, instead of equally, spaced between a ring-like inertia member 11 and a coaxial hub member 10. The vibration elements, each in the form of a bobbin comprising a pair of rubber discs 15 which are bonded to a metal interleaf 16 and to end plates 17, are clamped between the members 10, 11 in radial compression and are secured by studs 18 the inner ones of which engage in slots in the hub 10 to facilitate assembly. The compression forces in the bobbins maintain the inertia member 11 .coaxial with the hub 10. The radial stiffness of the damper along the vertical diameter, Fig. 1, is greater than that along a horizontal diameter depending upon the spacing between the bobbins 12a, 12b and 12b, 12c. Other balanced arrangements such as shown in Fig. 2 are also described and illustrated.
