Abstract
786,593. Motor vehicle driving gear. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. Nov. 28, 1955 [Nov. 30. 1954], No. 34005/55. Class 79(2) [Also in Group XXIV] Differential gearing, for motor vehicles, &c., comprises a driving planet carrier 7, bevel planet pinnions 11, and sun gears 15 connected to swinging half-shafts 32 through universal joints each comprising a pivot pin 28 mounted in a sun gear and formed with a slot 30 within which is pivoted the flattened end 31 of a halfshaft. Each planet pinion is formed in two parts 15, 16 connected together by screws, and the pivot pins 28 have integral lugs 29 received in recesses 27 within the pinions. Pivot pins 33 connect the flattened ends 31 of the half-shafts to the pivot pins 28. To transmit axial thrust from the half-shafts 32 to the differential casing 1, the sun gears 15 abut a central pinion suppport 13 rigid with the planet carrier 7, and also abut surfaces 23 on the planet carrier and a cover 8 secured thereto. thrust bearings 10 supporting the planet carrier &c. within the differential housing.
