Abstract
240,451. Osterreichische Waffenfabriks Ges. Sept. 23, 1924, [Convention date]. Differential or balance gearing is combined with universal or like connections to the vehicle part axles, which connections have a common centre at the centre of the differential. The differential casing 3, Fig. 1, is journaled in fixed bearings 4 and in turn supports the side wheels 7 which are driven differentially from planet pinions 6. The part axles 13 are universally jointed inside the two wheels 7, one to each. For this purpose two cross-slotted intermediate members 11. Fig. 5, are supported upon a central ball 12, back to back. Each wheel 7 has an inwardlvprojecting rib 8, Fig. 3, which works in one of the crossed slots 9, while a similar curved rib or fork 14 upon the end of each axle 13 works in the other crossed slot 10. The axle tubes 15 have cylindrical joints 15<a> allowing the axles to swing. In a modification. the cross-slotted intermediate members 11 are arranged outside the differential casing, the central ball being dispensed with. As shown in Fig. 6, the axles 13 are adapted to swing only in a plane at rightangles to the plane of the secton in cylindrical bearings 15<a>. The intermediate members 11 rest against the inner surface of the spherical differential casing 3 and are driven positively by extensions or ribs 8 of the wheels 7 at the rear. The members 11 are engaged directly by the forks 14 on the axles 13.
