Class 44 A double cylinder mortice lock has two cylinder bodies 10, Fig. 1, of inverted " keyhole or other non-cylindrical cross-section which are separately inserted through locating holes 31 in the cheeks 17 of the lock case, each cylinder body 10, Fig. 3, having on its inner end a longitudinal extension 14, disposed so as not to interfere with the rotation of the tongue or thrower 13, Fig. 1, on the associated plug 11 and formed with a transverse tapped hole 15, so that when the two separately inserted cylinders 10 are correctly positioned in the lock case the extensions 14 lie close alongside each other with the, holes 15 in register, the cylinders being secured together and against withdrawal by 'a single fixing screw 16 which, extends through, or is accessible through, the fore end 19 of the lock case and screws into the holes 15 in the overlapped extensions 14. The extension 14 is slightly longer than the width of the tongue 13 and. is half the width of the radial rib portion on the body 10, which portion houses the normal pin tumblers. Each tongue 13 has a gear segment to engage a pivoted toothed segment formed with a radial arm 24 for actuating a dead bolt 18 in known manner. The screw 16 also passes through holes in brackets 27, 28 and 29 secured to the lock case, and the holes 31 are shaped to receive the tongues 13 and the radial rib portions of the bodies 10. Other forms of mechanism for actuating the dead bolt may be used in lieu of that shown. Specification 729,254 is referred to.
