Class 44 In a combined mortice and cylinder lock, the cylinder lock is rotatably attached to the casing of the mortice lock with its axis at right angles to the plane in which the mortice bolt slides and is provided with a member which engages the bolt to reciprocate it, means being provided to fix the barrel of the cylinder lock to the casing in either of two positions spaced at 180 degrees from each other so that the combined lock is suitable for left or right hand fitting. The mortice lock comprises a casing 1 containing the mortice bolt 2 and including a face plate 3 and a side plate 4, and screwed into the latter is the cylinder lock 8 which is fixed in the alternative positions by means of a screw (not shown) passing through the face plate 3 and engaging the slots 10 in the outer barrel of the cylinder lock. A tongue plate 12 is secured to the end of the cylinder of the cylinder lock 8 by screws 13 and it carries a stud 16 for engaging a slot 17 in the mortice bolt 2, the barrel being provided with stops 14, to limit the rotary movement of the cylinder to 90 degrees, and with two sets of radial pins for cooperation with a single set of driving pins in the cylinder, to permit the key to be inserted or withdrawn from the two limiting positions of the cylinder.
