Abstract

586,701. Revolving-barrel locks. BOHAM, J. F. Nov. 24, 1944, No. 23405. [Class 44] In a revolving barrel lock of the kind having transversely slidable plate tumblers 4, without biasing springs, operable by an undulated key, the tumblers are assembled in a mounting member 5 with a recess 7 which slidably receives laterally projecting portions 6 of the tumblers, the parts 4, 5 being then inserted in a transverse slot 3 in the barrel. The key has a straight back edge portion 11 slidably guided in a straight slot 10 in member 5, and an undulated portion 12 received in slots 13 formed in the tumblers, the edges of the slots 13 and of the pointed key nose being rounded, Fig. 3, to facilitate insertion of the key. The part 16 of the key is received in the end slot 17 of the barrel, which also has a part 18 by which latch or other mechanism is operated in known manner by rotation of the barrel. The fixed casing 2 may have two pairs of recesses 9 to receive the ends of the tumbler in locking position, so that the barrel may be locked in two positions 180 degrees, or other desired angle, apart. Withdrawal of the key " scatters " the tumblers to locking positions.
