785,618. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. Jan. 26, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 4802/55. Class 64(2) [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXVII] A switch or valve 5 (see Group XXIX) is operated by a liquid-filled diaphragm or bellows 7 (connected to a pilot bulb by a tube 8), through a spring 21, in a cupend 20 of the bellows, and a U member 22 closed at the top by a bridge 25 secured to the valve 5 and abutting the spring and enclosing a compensating diaphragm or bellows 23. This bellows 23 acts on the U-member 22 in opposition to both the spring 21 and the main diaphragm or bellows 7 with which, however, it moves since it is attached to the cup-end 20 by a yoke 24 passing freely through the U-member and held on to the cup-end by an internal flange of a sliding guide 26 which is the lower abutment of a return spring 18 of the main bellows 7. The bellows 23 compensates for temperature changes near the main bellows 7. The spring 21 acts also as an overload spring.
