[Class 135] In a control mechanism for controlling physical variables, e.g. temperature or pressure, in which the controlling means, e.g. a valve, is operated by the pressure set up behind a nozzle 14 by a member coacting with the nozzle and movable in response to variations in the variable as detected by a sensitive element 16, "throttling range " variation is effected by arranging for the movable member to be subjected to an adjustable force which, in the undeflected position of the member, has no component in the direction along the axis of the nozzle but which, in a deflection position, exerts a restoring force. The sensitive element 16 acts, through a link 17, on a U-shaped member 3, pivoted or flexed about an axis A-A and having pivoted or flexed thereto, about an axis B-B a U-shaped member 4 loaded by a spring 2 and carrying the member coacting with the nozzle. A pivoted lever 8 transmits the force of an adjustable compression spring 12, through an adjustable rod or ball 7, to a pivoted lever 6, to which is fixed a rod 5, connected to the member 4. The members 3, 4 and the rod 5 are arranged to be in the same plane at zero deflection so that the force of the spring 12, acting through the rod 5, has no vertical component on the member 4, but upon deflection of the sensitive member, a vertical component of this force is applied to the member 4. A pointer 10, moving over a scale, indicates the setting of the pin or rod 7.
