Abstract
Alloys containing a precipitable phase containing Ni, Ti and Al and having good ductility and resistance to creep at high temperatures lie within the following range of compositions: Ni, 25-50 per cent; Cr, 8-25 per cent; C, up to 0.2 per cent; free Ti, 1.5-6 per cent; Mo, 5-7 per cent; B, 0.03-0.15 per cent; Zr, 0-0.2 per cent; Al, up to 4 per cent; Mn, 0-3 per cent; Si, 0-1 per cent; Cu, 0-5 per cent; V, 0-1 per cent; Co, 0-5 per cent; Fe, the remainder, at least 20 per cent. The free Ti content is calculated as the total Ti content minus 4 times the C content. The alloys may be solution treated between 1090 DEG C. and 1175 DEG C., rapidly cooled and aged between 590 DEG C. and 815 DEG C. Double ageing at 700 DEG C. and then at 650 DEG C. may be used or a treatment between 815 DEG C. and 950 DEG C. may be given between the solution treatment and ageing. If room temperature strength is important the solution treatment may be omitted and the alloys aged at say 760 DEG C. after hot or cold working.
