Abstract

A composition suitable as a covering for floors or walls comprises a plasticized copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride or of vinyl chloride and styrene and a filler consisting of a mixture of fibrous matter, such as asbestos, cork, wood flour and cellulose fibrous matter generally, and other non-fibrous matter, such as barytes, calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, china clay, dolomite, mica, silica, slate flour and serpentine talc, with or without pigments, of which mixture the fibrous filler constitutes not less than 59 per cent by weight. The plasticizer may be one or more of dicapryl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate, dinonyl and dibutyl sebacates, and the composition may also contain a stabilizer such as lead stearate, lead silicate or a metallo-organic compound such as a tin, lead, barium or cadmium salt.
