Abstract

Vinyl polymers are protected against the action of saprophytic fungi by incorporating in the polymer a plasticizer comprising a mixture of at least 25 per cent of tri-(2-chlorethyl) phosphate and not more than 75 per cent of dioctyl phthalate. Polymers mentioned are polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, vinyl butyral, or vinyl alcohol. Compositions containing this plasticizer and optionally stabilizers such as urea and calcium stearate, may be used as cable sheathings, pipes, tubes, sheets, clothing, curtains, or used as coatings for fabrics.
