Abstract

A composition for securing pile fibres on a fabric comprises a mixture of a vinyl polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene chloride, a plasticizer which gels the compound on heating, a dehydrating p agent which absorbs moisture at the temperature at which gellation occurs and optionally a heat-stabilizer. Specified plasticizers are tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl and dioctyl phthalates. Heat stabilizers mentioned are lead carbonate, and cadmium stearate. The dehydrating agent may be magnesium or calcium oxide, hydraulic cement or plaster of Paris. Specifications 588,447 and 712,240, [both in Group VIII], are referred to.
