Abstract

Cork compositions are made by mixing in an enclosed-type mixer at an elevated temperature one part of vinyl chloride polymer or interpolymer compositions containing 33-66 per cent of one or more plasticisers, 67-34 per cent of one or more vinyl chloride polymers which contain at least 20 per cent vinyl chloride units, with up to four parts of finely-divided cork. Plasticisers specified are dibutyl phthalate, chlorinated paraffin wax and tricresyl phosphate. Heat stabilizers such as lead silicate and lead 2 : 4-dihydroxyquinoline, fillers such as china clay, pigments and dyes may be added. Vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride interpolymers are specified. The compositions may be used as linoleum substitute, gaskets, and heat-insulating tiles.
