Abstract
Polyvinyl chloride compositions are rendered bacteria-repellent by the incorporation of zinc pentachlorophenolate. Salicyl anilide may also be added. The amount of phenolate, or phenolate plus anilide, is usually 1-6 wt. per cent of the total composition. The composition may also contain plasticizers, e.g. di-methyl, -ethyl, -butyl, or -cyclohexyl phthalate; tricresyl or triphenyl phosphate; dibutyl or benzyl butyl adipate; aliphatic sulphonic acid esters; glycerol triacetate and octyl p-hydroxybenzoate. In Examples, (1) 5 parts (wt.) of zinc pentachlorophenolate in 22 parts of a phenyl ester of a long chain aliphatic sulphonic acid is stirred into 73 parts powdered polyvinyl chloride and (2) 2,5 parts each of zinc pentachlorophenolate and salicyl anilide is stirred with 22 parts of dioctyl phthalate and 73 parts of polyvinyl chloride. The compositions may be used for the production of foot mats, door grips and handles, vehicle seats, duck boards, wall coverings and artificial leather.ALSO:Polyvinyl chloride compositions are rendered bacteria-repellent by the incorporation of zinc pentachlorophenolate.
