Abstract
A process for the production of open-celled soft polyvinyl chloride foam comprises heating a mixture of polyvinyl chloride, azodicarbonamide, a plasticizer having a gelling action at above 120 DEG C. and a catalyst system of zinc oxide, dibutyl tin distearate and urea, which reduces the decomposition temperature of the azodicarbonamide. The plasticizer may be diethylhexyl, diisononyl or diisododecyl phthalate or diisooctyl adipate, and a secondary plasticizer, such as hexyl stearate, octyl stearate or tetrapropylenebenzene may also be used. Compositions illustrated by examples may also contain an epoxy plasticizer and titanium white.ALSO:A catalyst composition which lowers the decomposition temperature of azodicarbonamide comprises zinc oxide, dibutyl tin distearate and urea. Preferred proportions in parts by weight are 0.5 to 5.0 zinc oxide, 0.02 to 1.5 dibutyl tin distearate and 0.1 to 5.0 urea.
