Abstract

The invention comprises cadmium thiodiglycolate and stannic thiodiglycolate. The novel compounds may be prepared by reacting an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt of thiodiglycolic acid with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt of tin or cadmium. The preferred starting materials are an alkali metal (e.g. sodium) thiodiglycolate, stannic chloride and cadmium chloride. In examples: (1) an aqueous solution of thiodiglycolic acid is neutralized with aqueous sodium hydroxide and mixed with a solution of cadmium chloride at 35-40 DEG C. and the cadmium thiodiglycolate is filtered off; (2) stannic thiodiglycolate is similarly obtained using stannic chloride. The products may be used as stabilizers for polymeric materials such as polyvinyl chloride. Specification 837,466 is referred to.
