Abstract
1,248,219. Sodium nitrilotriocetate. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 28 Nov., 1968 [19 Dec., 1967], No. 56547/68. Heading C2C. Sodium nitrilotriacetate is prepared by forming a homogeneous mixture by incrementally adding nitrilotriacetonitrile to an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution at a temperature of at least 90 C. and thereafter reacting the components at a temperature of at least 115 C. The nitrilotriacetonitrile is preferably added to the alkali over a period of 5-15 minutes, approximately stoichiometric amounts being employed.
