Abstract

The invention comprises 2,4-dichloropyrido (3,2-d) pyrimidine of the formula <FORM:0755225/IV(a)/1> and the preparation thereof by heating 3-aminopicolinic acid with urea and chlorinating the resulting 2,4-dihydroxypyrido(3,2-d)pyrimidine e.g., with phosphorus oxychloride. One detailed example is given using a mixture of phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus pentachloride for the chlorination step.
