Abstract

Glyceryl monorincinoleate may be prepared by reacting castor oil with glycerol in the presence of sodium acetate at 250 DEG C.ALSO:Oil-in-water emulsions of plasticized polyvinyl chloride are prepared by mixing a polyvinyl chloride plastisol and water in the presence of an oil-soluble monoglyceride, an ionic surface-active agent, a weak base and a weak acid which with the base constitutes a buffering system. Specified plasticizers are dioctyl adipate, dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl phthalate and tricresyl phosphate. Specified glycerides are of stearic, lauric, oleic, linoleic and ricinoleic acids. A proportion of diglyceride may be present. Specified surface active agents are alkyl sulphates, alkylaryl sulphonates and alkali metal and ammonium soaps. The preferred buffer constituents are sodium carbonate and boric acid. The compositions may also comprise pigments and thickeners, e.g. sodium or ammonium alginate, methyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose, and may be diluted with water for use as coating compositions. Examples describe aqueous emulsions comprising polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate, glycerol monoricinoleate, sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium carbonate, boric acid, ammonium polyacrylate together with (1) epoxy resin and stabilizer, and (2) calcium carbonate and sodium hexametaphosphate.
