Abstract

A moulding composition comprises a heatfusible phenol-formaldehyde novolak, 1 to 15% by weight of boric acid and an equimolar amount of hexamethylene tetramine with respect to the boric acid. The composition may also include a lubricant, a dye, a plasticizer and 0.5 to 2.5 times its weight of filler. In an example boric acid is added to a freshly prepared novolak the composition is ground hexamethylene tetramine, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, zinc stearate, asbestos, a dye, and wood flour are added and this final composition is rolled into sheets which are granulated.
