Abstract
1359118 Pharmaceutical tablets MERCK & CO Inc 29 March 1972 [2 April 1971 7 March 1972] 14862/72 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical tablets containing at least 95% by weight of the antibiotic pivaloyloxymethyl-D-(-)-α-aminobenzyl penicillinate, together with up to 5% of a lubricant as the only additive, are prepared by increasing the bulk density of the antibiotic by adding an alcohol to the solid antibiotic and mixing these components in the absence of any other ingredients and drying the alcohol-containing mixture to remove the alcohol and then mixing a tableting lubricant with the densified antibiotic comprising the resulting dried material and compressing the mixture into tablets. The alcohol may be a C 1-6 alkanol (preferably ethanol or isopropanol) and the lubricant may be magnesium stearate, talc, calcium stearate or stearic acid.
