Abstract

1,140,558. Polyvinyl acetate compositions. L. FEIT. 11 Jan., 1968, No. 1643/68. Heading C3P. A film-forming composition comprises a disporsion of a filler and polyvinyl acetate or vinyl acetate copolymerized with a minor amount of vinyl chloride and/or acrylic esters, the resin being modified with a benzoic acid ester selected from dipropylene-glycol-dibenzoate, diethylene-glycol-dibenzoate, triethyleneglycol - dibenzoate and ethylene - glycoldibenzoate, the ester being between¢ and 25 parts per 100 parts by weight of dispersion and the solids content being between 30 and 65 parts by weight of the total composition. Preferred fillers are talc, calcium carbonate, silicate or sulphate, siliceous chalk, mica, china clay, magnesium silicate, diatomaceous silica or amorphous silica. The dispersion may also contain an inorganic or organic pigment, wetting agent and an anti-foam agent. In the examples, a first mixture was prepared by adding a filler to a vinyl acetate co-polymer dispersed in water, and diethylene glycol laurate and diethylene glycol dibenzoate was stirred into the dispersion. A further mixture of water, polyethylene-glycol monolaurate, lecithin, inorganic pigments, fillers and diethyleneglycol laurate was prepared and added to the first mixture to form a film-forming composition.
