Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the heat stability and weather resistance of a polyvinyl chloride resin compound without spoiling the advantageous properties, by compounding the polyvinyl chloride resin with an inorganic filler surface-treated with an aqueous dispersion of a specific self-dispersing polyolefin composition.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dispersion is prepared by mixing 50W99pts.wt. of a polyolefin, MW of about 500W4000, with 50W1pts.wt. of a carboxyl group-containing polyolefin, intrinsic viscosity [η] of 0.05W0.5, acid value of 30W150, which is a great copolymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof such as acrylic acid. A polyvinyl chloride resin is compounded with a surface treating filler prepared by coating an inorganic filler such as calcium carbonate with the above aqueous dispersion so that 0.5W5pts.wt. of the solids of the dispersion are present per 100pts.wt. of the inorganic filler. The surface treating filler is used in an amount of below 300pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of polyvinyl chloride resin. This filler has good dispersibility in polyvinyl chloride resins and good compatibility with the resins and does not adversely affect the tensile strength, elongation, etc. Therefore, the filler can be added in high proportions, and so is useful in reducing the cost of a resin composition.
