Abstract

784,172. Air supply for combustion. SMELLIE, Ltd., J. May 8, 1956 [May 18, 1955], No. 14288/55. Class 126 In a fire grate of the kind supplied with air through a valve controlled inlet to a well containing an ash pan, the ash pan has an aperture at the lower edge of a side wall registering with the air inlet and leading to a vertical duct formed at the inside of the ash pan and a flange at the top of the duct to deflect air to the centre of the grate and prevent ashes entering the duct. The lower part of the side wall of the ashpan has a semi-circular hole 10a and a channel section plate 11 is secured to the wall. Part of the bottom of the ashpan within the channel section plate 11 is cut away so as to prevent ash lodging in the bottom of the duct. A horizontal flange 12 secured to the wall of the ash pan above the duct deflects the air to the middle of the grate 9.
