783,789. Shearing. AUXILIARY ROLLING MACHINERY, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1955 [Nov. 20, 1954], No. 33647/54. Class 83 (4). In a machine having rotary blades, e.g. for slitting metal sheet, each blade is driven by worm and worm wheel gearing and one unit comprising a worm, worm wheel and blade shaft is movably mounted to adjust the relative positions of the blades. The worms and worm wheel 5 driving the upper blade shaft 3 and the bearings for the shaft 3 are mounted in a gear box 14 slidable in guides in the frame 13 and supported by a rod 19 threaded into the frame 13 so as to be vertically adjustable. The lower blade shaft 4 is journalled in the frame 13 and carries a worm wheel 6 engaging a worm on the driving shaft 9. The drive from the shaft 9 is transmitted through a coupling 17 to a shaft slidable therein and carrying a gear 11 engaging a gear 12 driving the worm and wheel gearing 5, the gears 11 and 12 being carried by the gearbox 14.
