Abstract
650,581. Shearing. BOHLER, V. March 1, 1948, No. 6413. Convention date, March 1, 1947. [Class 83 (iv)] In a slab shearing machine the lower shear blade member 4 is operated through a push-rod 5 by a crankshaft 2 carried in a frame 12 mounted below the slab-supporting means and the upper shear blade member 7 is bolted and keyed between a pair of links 8 which act as guides for the lower shear blade member 4 and are supported against the horizontal component of the thrust by bearings 11 attached to a fixed part of the machine. The crank-shaft 2 is driven at each end through spur gears from twin motors 1 and the frame 12 is pivoted to an intermediate shaft 13 in the drive and is vertically adjustable by a threaded spindle 15 operated by an electricallydriven worm gear 14. Journals 9 rigidly fixed to the links 8 and carrying bushes 10 are guided in the bearing shields 11 attached to the roller feed table. In cutting large sections the crank-shaft 2 makes a complete revolution but for small sections the frame 12 is lowered by the worm gear 14 until the upper blade 6 is about 50 mm. above the work and the crank-shaft is partially rotated in reverse directions by reversing the motors 1, the stroke being controlled by a limiting switch arranged so that the lower blade 3 is arrested at a position about 20 mm. below the work after each cut.
