778,136. Window and door frames. HOPE & SONS, Ltd., H. Dec. 7, 1955 (Sept. 27, 1954], No. 27803/54. Class 20(3) The two side members g, h, and an upper cross member i, mitred at the corners, and joined, e.g. by welding, to form with a lower cross member j a door or window frame, are each formed from metal strip which is shaped, e.g. by pressing, to form a hollow member of substantially rectangular configuration, the free edges d, e of the strip being overlapped adjacent a step a along the inner face of the member and united, e.g. by welding f which conceals the joint. The outer edge of the front face of each member g, h, j is extended laterally to provide a flange b to abut against the corresponding jamb or upper cross member of the fixed door, or window, frame 2, 3. A projection c is formed adjacent the rear face of each member g, h, i to complete the door, sheet metal panels m, n are attached to the side members g, h to occupy the whole of the door area between the members g, h or as shown, to occupy only the lower part, the upper part in this case being filled by a window o. The side edges of the panel m each have a lip q to abut on the step a of the adjacent side member g or h, the upper edge being shaped to channel section and having a lip r. Lips s on the sides of the panel n abut against the lips q of the panel m, and a lip t along its upper end meets the lip r, the upper ends of both panels m, n being joined, e.g. by welding, as at u. Lips w, v on the lower edges of the panels m, n engage the edges of the lower cross member j. The window o is located in the frame by means of a glazing strip x. The door, or window, is mounted in the fixed door, or window frame 2, 3, and is attached to one of the jambs 3 by hinges 5.
