A detachable metal cover ledge 3 for application to existing frame constructions of windows, show eases, doors, &c., is screwed, together with a snap ledge 5, or 5a, to the frame 7, e.g. of a window, the upper edge of the ledge 3 being received in a groove in a front ledge 2 screwed to a sill 9 and carrying a packing strip 10 to engage a panel 1, and a profile ledge 4, covering fixing screws 6, being sprung on to the snap ledge 5 or 5a. In a modification the cover ledge 3 is engaged on a snap ledge 5 or 5a, which is screwed to the outer vertical face of the sill 9, a packing strip being engaged between the upper edge of the cover ledge and the panel 1. In a further modification the cover ledge is screwed, together with an angle section profile member, to the upper face of the sill 9, one limb of the profile member, bendable to cover the screws passing through the other limb, having a packing along its outer edge which, when the limb is bent, presses up against the panel 1. Two other substantially similar embodiments show angle section profile members having limbs which can be folded over the screws securing them respectively to the side and under faces of the sill 9, both embodiments in this case showing a packing member interposed between the upper limbs of the ledge 3 and the panel 1. In the construction, Fig. 9, the cover ledge 13 has recesses on its inner surfaces to engage snap springs 14, 15 formed as continuous ledges, or as spaced shorter bars, and secured to the sill as shown, or to a metal profile secured to the frame 7. In a further embodiment, Fig. 11, the cover ledge 3 is secured by screws which are inserted through a groove 16 subsequently filled with wood 17 which accommodates an interlocking profile ledge 19. In another construction, a cover strip, substantially the same as that shown in Fig. 1, has a recess along its lower edge to accommodate fixing screws which are covered with wood filling, a metal profile, containing packing, being glued to the wood filling. Further constructions are described in which metal profile ledges, serving as coverings for the fixing screws, have corrugated sides, or spring ledges, to engage either with correspondingly formed surfaces on the walls of the recesses in the cover ledge or with spring ledges secured to the bottom of the corresponding recesses by the fixing screws.
