Abstract
777,213. Foundry ladles; coating wire or strip by dipping. BIRLEC, Ltd. April 9, 1953 [April 9, 1952], No. 9613/53. Classes 82(1) and 82(2) [Also in Groups XI, XII and XXII] For controlling or preventing the discharge of molten aluminium or other metal 12, Fig. 1, from a holding furnace or other container 11 through an opening 14 below the level 13 of the metal, electromagnetic forces are induced in the metal by an induction coil 16 disposed around the container to move the metal away from the opening. Figs. 3 and 6 show a die casting machine 37 fed from a melting furnace 21 which is pivoted at 22, heated by an induction coil 27, and fitted with such an electromagnetic valve 28. The latter comprises a chamber 31 surrounded by a wall 29, induction coils 32, and a magnetic valve 28. The latter comprises a chamber 31 surrounded by a wall 29, induction coils 32, and a magnetic shield 33, and containing a refractory nozzle 38 inclined at approximately 45 degrees to the axis of the chamber 31, with its discharge outlet 46 heated by a coil 47. In a modification (Fig. 5 not shown) the valve 28 is in substantially horizontal alignment with the pivot 22. Fig. 8 shows a galvanizing vessel 51 heated by an induction coil 27 and provided with two such electromagnetic valves. The latter comprise aligned nozzles 52, 53 which are surrounded by induction coils 57, 58 and which have openings 56 for the passage of wire or like strip material 62. Specification 777,214 is referred to.
