Abstract
PURPOSE: To decrease slag and slime with a small amount of an inoculant, prevent pouring trouble and improve productivity by feeding the inoculant to the upper stream of the ingates provided in proximity of the stopper nozzle of the pouring path of an automatic pouring device.
CONSTITUTION: In casting, molten cast iron 11 is filled in a body 1 and a pouring flow passage 2, and a stopper rod 3 is moved upward to open a nozzle 4, thereby flowing the molten metal 11 into a mold 10. At this time, a supply machine 8 operates to feed an inoculating wire 6 into the molten metal 11 in such a manner that its leading end abuts on the bottom surface of the path 2, thereby accomplishing inoculation. The feed speed of the wire 6 is controlled by cooperating said speed and pouring speed after the feed speed has been determined in accordance with the pouring speed. As to the number and positions of the ingates to be provided in the path 2, they can be provided not only between the position where the wire 6 is inserted and the nozzle 4, but also between molten metal level detecting terminals 5 and the insertion position and further on the left side of the terminals 5 in addition to two ingates 9.
