Abstract

776,876. Two-part couplings. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd. Nov. 25, 1955 [Aug. 27, 1954], No. 24954/54. Class 38 (1). A plug for a connecting box 9 particularly adapted to be mounted flush with the surface of the ground, comprises a cover part 1, Fig. 2, and a skirt part 2 having projections 4, 5 which together form a lateral cable entry. The part 2 encloses an insulating blade-contact-carrying member 11 and has an external flange 21 with a locking ring 26 and sealing gasket 22 above and below it respectively. Insulating compound is introduced into the space between cover 1 and.member 11 to enclose the terminal connections. The plug is inserted through an aperture in a flange 24 depending from the cover 8 of the box, which aperture is otherwise closed by a dummy plug, the act of inserting the plug depressing a plunger 32 to close a switch and complete the circuit through fuses 20 to socket contacts 18 with which the plug blades cooperate, an earthing connection being completed by the skirt 2. Gasket 22 engages a rib 23 on flange 24 and locking ring 26 is rotated, so that lugs thereon engage recesses in the flange 24, by rotating a bar 29, Fig. 1, pivoted on the cover 1 and engaging pins carried by ring 26 and passing through arcuate slots 28, 28<SP>1</SP> in the cover 1. Pivoted handles 30, 301 on the bar 29 serve for rotating the latter and lifting the plug out of the box.
