Abstract

776,643. Earth-moving apparatus. MASSEYHARRIS-FERGUSON (SALES), Ltd. Nov. 30, 1953 [Dec. 1, 1952], No. 30334/52. Class 68 (1). The means for securing a scoop 12 to frames 7, 8 attached to the hydraulically actuated draft linkage 1, 6 of a tractor are such that the scoop may be attached to the frames either in a forwardly or in a rearwardly facing position. When facing forwardly, the scoop is pivotally mounted by pins 10 on the arm 8 of each frame 7, 8 and is prevented from rotating about the pins 10, which are in front of the centre of gravity of the scoop, during filling and transporting operations by stops 19 and latch-engaged stops 18. When facing rearwardly, the scoop pivots about pins 10R and is prevented from rotating about said pins during filling and transporting operations by stops 19R and latch-engaged stops 18R. Since the depth control of the hydraulically actuated draft linkage is regulated by the compressive force acting on a plunger 4 of the hydraulic system incorporated in the tractor, the top bar 6 of the draft linkage consists of a telescopic sleeve 6A and rod 6B. When the scoop faces forwardly then the sleeve and rod are not rigidly connected and the compressive force due to the scoop digging into material is transmitted by the sleeve 6A through an adjustable abutment 6C on the rod 6B to the plunger 4. When the scoop faces rearwardly, the sleeve 6A and rod 6B are bolted together. The rod 6B is pivotally connected at 5 to a bell crank 2 pivotally secured to the tractor at 3 and to the plunger 4.
