Abstract

1,193,986. Push-pull couplings for vehicles. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. 25 Oct., 1967 [1 June, 1967], No. 48503/67. Heading B7T. [Also in Division E1] A push-pull coupling for a pair of earth-moving scrapers comprises a pulling hook 17 and a push block 16, removably disposed on the front scraper, and a pivoted eye or bail 21 and a push-block 46 mounted removably on the rear scraper, an hydraulic jack 22, 39 being operable by the operator of the rear scraper to pivot the eye 21 about 37 to couple or uncouple the coupling. The push-block 46 is pivotally secured by two ball joints 47 to brackets pairs 43, 44 extending from a member 42, 36 bolted to the scraper frame, and resilient pads 49 are pivotally supported on the block 46 and bolted to the member 42, 36. A bar 53 provides a lower stop for the eye 21, A resilient stop 54 is provided on each bracket pair 43, 44. Shockabsorbing means may be provided between the push-block 16 and its scraper, and in the pulling hook mounting or the bail. In operation, the front scraper bowl is first loaded by using the rear scraper to push the front scraper (the eye 21 being raised), and then the rear scraper bowl is then loaded by using the front scraper to pull the rear scraper (the eye 21 being lowered).
