[Class 68 (i)] A machine for excavating trenches, cleaning ditches, &c. comprises a skeleton draw-bar 14 with, at its front end, universal pivot means for connection to a tractor, and, at each side of its rear end, pairs of depending arms 16, 16a pivotally connected, directly or indirectly, to a scoop 17 from which a rod 23, adjustable in length, projects forwardly; towards its forward end, the rod 23 has two or more notches 23a, 23b, any one of which may be engaged by a roller 25 on a bell-crank 26 controlled by a lever 30 to hold the scoop in digging or carrying positions, the parts being so proportioned that as the arms 16, 16a swing rearwardly, the front end of the scoop swings upwardly. Rear notches 23b may be formed in adjustable sleeves 23c held by pins. The scoop may be hinged at the rear for discharging through its front end, or it may have a bottom plate 17a pivoted laterally at 17f to the scoop and normally held by a spring- pulled hook member 18 actuated through cable 19 and rod 19a by the lever 30. Pivoted to the draw-bar 14 are arms 33 pierced by springs 37 and carrying a wheel 32, a skid or both, lowering of the wheel causing the scoop to be raised from the trench &c., a toggle 35, 35a then holding the parts ; the wheel or skid is laterally and adjustably inclined, whereby forward or backward movement of the machine causes lateral movement of the scoop to or from a discharge point. A sprag 35d is provided on the toggle member 35. For transport, wheels 42 are attached to the scoop.
