776,194. Mine roof supporting girders. GERLACH; H. Dec. 24, 1954, No. 37326/54. Class 20(2) Mine roof girders have girders at their engaging ends to guide into register the holes for the hinge pin connecting them. The forked end 8 of a girder 1 has ridges 7 on which is guided the bearing bosses 6 of the tongue 5 of the other girder 2, which bosses engage stops 7a when the holes for the hinge pin 3 register. A wedge 4 forces the girder 2 against the roof. In modifications the forked end is movable on its girder to the extent allowed by stops to facilitate the withdrawal of this girder. Also the ridges 7 may be at the top and bottom of the forked end 8 to allow the girders to be used when turned through 180 degrees. In another modification Figs. 9, 10 (not shown) the wedge 4 and pin 3 are in one piece and the ends of this piece are connected by a chain passing through a hole in the girder 1.
