Abstract

774,533. Turning. BROWN & WARD (TOOLS), Ltd. Dec. 22, 1954 [March 20, 1954], No. 8206/54. Class 83 (3). A tool-holder for centre-drilling tools for automatic turret-lathes comprises a swinging tool-carrier 1 movable from one operative position to another so that a selected tool from a number of tools 5, 6, can be brought into operation, and a lifting cam 8 on a cross-slide 16 which lifts the tool-carrier and holds it in the raised position. The tool-holder comprises a bodypart 3, Fig. 1, a shank 4, to fit the lathe-turret, and a carrier 1 rotatable about a pin 2 secured to the body. Two drills 5, 6, are carried by the part 1, the former being normally on the lathe centre-line. The carrier 1 is urged into this position against an adjustable stop 12 by a spring 7 in an arcuate recess. A pin 11 secured to the body 3 projects into the recess and forms an end-stop for the spring 7. An adjustable button 13, Fig. 3, on the lower face of the part I is engaged by a flat cam-plate 8 carried by a form-tool slide 16 to bring the second drill 6 into line with the work.
