Abstract
729,116. Turret lathes; combined lathes and drilling-machines. SCHWENDENWEIN, K Dec. 18, 1950 [Dec. 16, 1949], No. 30783/50. Class 83 (3). A traversed headstock lathe comprises at least one tool which is displaced longitudinally by a feed cam s, and a spindle g at right angles to the lathe axis, the spindle being connected to the headstock and to the tool-carrier e and operated continuously to allow the simultaneous use of the headstock traverse and the toolcarrier feed. The headstock h carries the work, and is traversed by a cam h<SP>1</SP>. The turret e, carrying drills or other tools, is displaced longitudinally by the cam s through a crank k and a push-rod m. The cam s is axially-fast and is shaped as if no relative movement occurred between the work and the machine bed. To compensate for such movement, a rod b is attached to the headstock and supports a bell-crank l pivoted on the spindle y. One end of the lever l is pivoted to the rod m which is connected to the indexing crank j, and the other carries a pin u which slides in a slot in a lever q carrying a follower r. The follower r is held in contact with the cam s by a spring t carried in a bore in the rod b and connected to the turret slide d by links c, c<SP>1</SP>. The rod m may be connected to the lever l through a rack. The mechanism of Figs. 4 and 6 is also applied to an oscillating drill-carrier x, Fig. 8, the tools being advanced by a tongue n<SP>1</SP> and adjusted, as to their withdrawn positions, by screws e. Specification 699,814 is referred to.
