715,847. Lathe details. WICKMAN, Ltd. March 3, 1953 [March 6, 1952], No. 5860/52. Class 83 (3). A lathe attachment for supporting a workpiece so that an additional operation can be performed on it after it has been severed from a stock-bar comprises a slide a, Fig. 1, a workcarrying arm f pivotally mounted on the slide and movable through 180 degrees between two horizontal positions, a rack j slidably mounted on the slide, a pinion h fixed to and having its axis on the pivot axis of the arm f, an intermediate pinion i rotatably mounted on the slide and engaging the rack and the pinion h, a longitudinally slotted locking arm k fixed to and extending from the intermediate pinion i, and a fixed stop m on the lathe bed b engaging the locking arm. The work d on being severed is received in a socket g in the end of the arm f. The rack j is reciprocated by a link n through means not described. The slide a is retracted by the link n until the closed inner end of the slot in the locking arm strikes the stop n. The slide is then held stationary and continued movement of the link causes the rack to move relatively to the slide. This causes the arms f, k to be moved relatively to each other through 180 degrees, thus bringing the work into a position adjacent to the tool t which performs the additional operation. This tool may be a slotting saw, a burr, or, a drill. An ejector o, Fig. 4, removes the work from its holder on return movement of the slide.
