Abstract

558,014. Lathes. SMITH, W. H. June 12, 1942, No. 8070. [Class 83 (iii)] A vertical hollow spindle lathe has forming and parting tools carried on pivoted arms operated by cams on a shaft parallel to the spindle. The spindle, driven by a pulley 2, is connected to the camshaft 8 by worm gears 10, 12. The camshaft carries cams 15, 16 operating levers 22, 23, which, through adjustable screws 24, 25, actuate tool-carrying arms 19, 20, return movements being effected by a compression spring 21 connecting the tool arms. The lower arm carries an adjustable stop screw 26 on to which the bar A is fed by gravity when the collet 6 is opened by the sliding of a cone 30 by cam and lever mechanism 29.
