Abstract

774,227. Drying paper &c. LIPPKE, P. Jan. 24, 1955 [Jan. 23, 1954], No. 2059/55. Class 96. A paper or cardboard web or cellulose pulp &c. during manufacture, e.g. at a wet press of a paper-making machine is warmed, e.g. up to 40‹ C., to reduce the viscosity of the water therein and thus increase the proportion of water expressed, by direct application of electricity, preferably high-frequency alternating current, which may be applied by rollers or screens, and flows through the material as it passes through the wet press. The current may also flow through the press felt. In one form, a large cylinder may function as one electrode and coact with a series of smaller rollers or with several metal screens. Cylinders or screens may be heated independently of the paper web, and different voltages may be used for different stages in the manufacture of the paper &c. Drying may be completed by usual methods.
